We're still working on it. I just got the broken rotors yesterday, and I'm almost positive the failures are caused by stress cracks working their way in from the rough surface on the backs of the rotors. Shot peening the rotors could very well reduce the chance of stress cracks forming, but in the end it's only a band aid. The rotors Dave sent are pretty rough looking and kind of thin in some places, so I think the hub conversion is the way to go in the long run.

So far the Integra hub conversion looks promising. I'm gathering up the parts now to do some test fitting to work out the dimension for the conversion sleeve. Once the dimensions are figure out I can mock up some sleeves and try them out.

Last year I had some rotors shot peened, but they failed as well. For my upcoming Labor Day race, I'll give some cryo treated rotors a try on the side which doesn't see as much load and keep my fingers crossed. I am learning quite a bit about rotor fabrication though! At least for our Preludes, no matter where you order rotors they all come from the same few manufacturers doing the casting.

Man, sucks that the shot peening didn't help.

Anyway I showed the broken parts to my ME friend and he coccurred with the lousy casting theory. He also commented that it looked like an older design that was common with drum brake systems. And he seemed somewhat surprised that Honda would do something like that.

Didn't have much luck with finding junkyard parts the other day so I just bought the cheapest hub and brake rotor I could find on ebay. $15 for the rotor and $29 for the hub. Both are new parts and had free shipping! How the hell can you beat that? The parts should be here early next week so then I can do some actual test fitting. I did take some measurements on the good rotor Dave sent and it looks like the 'lude spindles will be plenty long enough for the new hub, so we're still looking good. I'll update again when I get the new parts.
